Video Production & Claymation Camp
Video Production & Claymation Camp
Another week with TWO camps!
The first part of this camp will be our Video Production Camp. Although the digital age has almost entirely eclipsed old school film, the art of filmmaking has never been easier to start learning. During this camp, students learn about the history of film including tech advancements, as well as the variety of genre branches. Tablets in the tech are becoming increasingly prevalent, so students film and edit using only a tablet!
The art of composition is also a topic that is covered in Video Production Camp. From storyboarding, the rule of thirds, to lighting and audio, each shot must be worthy of the final production. Daily activities build upon previous knowledge and the camp culminates in a final film project, which they show off with pride at the film festival held on the last day of this portion of the camp week.
In this hands-on, integrated curriculum approach students gain both technical skills in video filming and editing while learning about the historical significance of film and the elements of story telling.
The second part of this camp will be our "Claymation Camp" .
What do Wallace and Gromit, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and James and the Giant Peach all have in common? They’re claymation characters who have captivated the world with the magical realities they bring to life! Tap into the incredible practice of stop-motion film production and learn the technique from the ground up. Claymation Camp contains everything students need to create their own, individual movies, including top-quality clay, fun-to-use software, adorable cameras and amazing curriculum that turns anyone into a filmmaker.
Through cumulative daily projects, teamwork, technological literacy and a little bit of movie-making magic, you’re sure to win awards at the film festival held the last day of camp!

Animated Video Camp / Traveling Artist Camp
Animated Video Camp / Traveling Artist Camp
In the first section of this camp, students will learn everything they need to create animated videos. The fully-featured animation software has been specifically designed for ease of use and will suit all ages from five and above. Children of all ages can be creating their own stop motion films using the award-winning HUE HD camera, a flexible plug and play USB camera with built-in microphone. The innovative, versatile design of the camera allows limitless positioning options perfect for filming an animated movie. Both fun and educational, students create their own stop motion films to save and share with you after they get home.
In the second section of this camp, students will survey the world of art by carving totem poles in the Pacific Northwest, crafting Aztec masks in the heart of Mexico and experimenting with the artistic traditions of history. In this thrilling camp, students get creative examining the STEM processes that make art possible, like the delicate balance of water tension involved in Japanese Suminagashi paper or the cultural traditions and paleontology of Chinese “dragons”. In Traveling Artist Camp, students will explore the different cultures of the world through the depth of their history, legacy and incredible works of art!

Scratch Camp / Science of Super Powers Camp
Scratch Camp / Science of Super Powers Camp
In the first section of this camp, animation and basic computer programming are combined in state-of-the-art teaching software developed and maintained by MIT. Scratch is continually being updated by the brains at MIT to encourage young students to combine creativity and logic with fun, animated activities. This camp utilizes the Scratch software and developed a series of exciting projects that walks students through basics and eventually challenges them to build their very own interactive storyboard with voice, video, animated characters and more. Students will see the world of computer programming in a whole new light with this camp and Scratch’s drag-and-drop interface that encourages authentic student discovery and growth.
The second section of this camp will cover the Science of Superpowers. Many of the world’s most famous superheroes modeled their identities after creatures with unique abilities by using engineering and design techniques. Students will be given an opportunity to dissect these skill-sets and uncover the science behind such super skills. With 12 hands-on lessons, biology, engineering, and technology concepts are discussed through the lens of comic book heroes!
Not only does this camp explore the science aspect of superpowers, but dives into what makes a true hero in the community. Who in your local community is a hero and what do they give back to the community like a superhero does? Sometimes heroes are as close as the room next door. Through collaboration and a community awareness students identify these real-life role models!

Bridge Building Camp & Ocean Exploration Camp
Bridge Building Camp & Ocean Exploration Camp
Bring STEM concepts to life with K'NEX® Education! This camp is designed to assist students in their study of the history, function, structural design, geometry and strength of bridges. They will also investigate concepts related to the physical properties of materials and their application in the placement, design, and construction of bridges. At the end of this section of the camp, students will take scrap pieces of cardboard and paper to design their own bridges from scratch utilizing the methods they have learned and see how much weight each bridge can hold!
Part two of this camp covers Ocean Exploration. Oceanic Exploration Camp takes students on a journey from the tropics to the poles, from the great river deltas to the Mariana Trench. Build an arctic food web. Simulate adaptation in coral reefs. Bring the California sea otter back from the brink of extinction. Track great white sharks across the open ocean.
Why is there so much variety? What makes one ocean ecosystem different from another? Hands-on activities help students to discover the physical and geological systems that underpin all ocean life: density, buoyancy, heat transfer, plate tectonics, and the water cycle.
