Scratch Camp

Animation and basic computer programming are combined in state-of-the-art teaching software developed and maintained by MIT. Scratch is continually being updated by the brains at MIT to encourage young students to combine creativity and logic with fun, animated activities. This camp utilizes the Scratch software and developed a series of exciting projects that walks students through basics and eventually challenges them to build their very own interactive storyboard with voice, video, animated characters and more. Students will see the world of computer programming in a whole new light with this camp and Scratch’s drag-and-drop interface that encourages authentic student discovery and growth.

Science of Superpowers

Many of the world’s most famous superheroes modeled their identities after creatures with unique abilities by using engineering and design techniques. Students will be given an opportunity to dissect these skill-sets and uncover the science behind such super skills. With 12 hands-on lessons, biology, engineering, and technology concepts are discussed through the lens of comic book heroes!

Not only does this camp explore the science aspect of superpowers, but dives into what makes a true hero in the community. Who in your local community is a hero and what do they give back to the community like a superhero does? Sometimes heroes are as close as the room next door. Through collaboration and a community awareness students identify these real-life role models!

Video Production Camp

Although the digital age has almost entirely eclipsed old school film, the art of filmmaking has never been easier to start learning. Video Production Camp was developed around tablets and editing software to make filmmaking as accessible as possible for our students. Throughout the 12 unit curriculum students learn about the history of film including tech advancements, as well as the variety of genre branches. ,Students film and edit using only a tablet!

The art of composition is also a topic that is covered in Video Production Camp. From storyboarding, the rule of thirds, to lighting and audio, making each shot must be worthy of the final production. Daily activities build upon previous knowledge and the camp culminates in a final film project, which they show off with pride at the film festival held on the last day of camp (popcorn provided!).

In this hands-on, integrated curriculum approach students gain both technical skills in video filming and editing while learning about the historical significance of film and the elements of story telling.  This fusion of art and technological literacy is truly the perfect illustration of STEAM education brought to life.

Pirate Camp

As students transform into pirates, they work together to navigate the high seas. Through STEM-focused science experiments, hands-on engineering design activities, and engaging group discussions, students experience just how much science and engineering it takes to be a pirate.

Each day begins with a story that sets the scene and engages the students’ senses, curiosity, and critical thinking. Just like “real” pirates, students must work together with their crew to accomplish challenging tasks such as building catapult, tying knots, making maps, and following them to hidden treasure! Adventure and treasure awaits your students - by the end of Pirate Camp, they'll be singing, Yo ho ho, it’s a pirate’s life for me!

Unleash your Wild Side

As students become safari journalists, they learn how ecosystems around the world function and the diverse animals which live in them. From a reporter’s point of view, they utilize their language arts skills while diving into the science behind habitats. No rock will be left un-turned as they traverse around the globe to give live “daily” reports on a variety of regions from the arctic to the forest.

The activities in this camp are designed to reinforce new vocabulary words involving ecosystems and the animal kingdom while encouraging students to become more globally involved. They will develop real-world skills and cultivate an interest in the natural and untamed areas of the planet!

Sports Science Week

Did you know there is a science behind the success of major athletes? They have near perfect pitches, swings, kicks, strokes and more! The science behind some of the most popular sports today comes from an intuitive understanding of body mechanics, forces and motion and the influence of gravity - to name just a few! Designed to get students excited about learning and bring math and science concepts to life, this camp creates action-packed learning experience. Each day explore the science of a different kind of movement and helps students connect their new skills to their favorite sports. What does friction have to do with soccer? Why would a football player need to know about unbalanced forces? And how would a person do against a kangaroo in the long jump?
